AN unkind cut seems to have done the trick, with the now gelded Four Excel breaking through at his first run back from a spell.

The Exceed and Excel three-year-old won at his fourth career start and first since August when he scored in a Maiden (1000m) at a Sunshine Coast Friday night meeting on December 11.

"It was a satisfying win," said trainer Stuart Kendrick.

"The horse had always shown a lot of ability early on but didn't realise his potential last time in.

"We've had him gelded since and it may have done the trick.

"He was also aided by having Damian Browne on him. I put Brownie on him as I thought he would suit the horse."

Four Excel ($3.20-fav) sat outside the leader before getting home by a quarter-of-a-length.

Another Kendrick Racing runner Who's Your Daddy ($9) flew home from well back for second, giving the stable the quinella.

Who's Your Daddy was first-up since July and there looks to be a win in store for him soon.

"He was a little unlucky,'' said Kendrick. "He came from a long way back and got held up momentarily at a crucial time."
