A BREAKTHROUGH win by It's A Stick Up at Ipswich was extra special for owners Alan and Ellie Broder who bred the horse.

"They used to race the horse's dam (Simply Ebony),'' said trainer Stuart Kendrick after the Bushranger three-year-old won a Maiden (800m) on Christmas Eve.

It's A Stick Up is a speedy type and had been unlucky when third when resuming over 800m at Kilcoy two starts back at the start of December.

Having his fifth career start, It's A Stick Up ($5.50), ridden by apprentice Tiffani Brooker, scored nicely at Ipswich by three-quarters of a length.

"The 800 metres around Ipswich really suited and hopefully as he matures he'll get further," said Kendrick.

"It was very satisfying for the owners who have been very patient with him,'' he said.

"He was well ridden by Tiffani Brooker, who is in good form."
