IT was no surprise when Go On Red returned from a short let-up with a midweek city win.

The Red Dazzler five-year-old won a trial leading into the race, beating Group 1 winner Yankee Rose.

He lived up to that trial form, winning a Class 3 (1350m) at Doomben on Wednesday, September 14.

Ridden by Damian Browne, Go On Red ($3.30) made good use of barrier one, winning easily by nearly two lengths on the soft (5) track.

"It was a great return to racing for the horse,'' said trainer Stuart Kendrick.

"He trialled over 12000m a fortnight before the race and went super and his work since then has been spot on,'' he said.

Go On Red hadn't started since a midfield effort over 2150m at Ipswich in late July.

"We opted to freshen him up after that run and it has done the trick," Kendrick said.

Go On Red is no stranger to city wins. He won a Class 3 over a mile at Doomben in June.
