STABLE newcomer Tambo’s Jewel put in a sparkling run to win on debut in Townsville late last month.
The three-year-old filly made a perfect start to her racing career, winning a 3YO Maiden (1000m) with Adrian Coome onboard.
It was a nice hometown win for her owner-breeder, Townsville bookmaker Dalan Tamblyn. A debut win looked at long odds not that long ago when the filly was beaten about 250m in an 800m barrier trial at Rosehill when trained in Sydney.
But she has gone ahead leaps and bounds since coming north and joining Kendrick Racing’s stable.
Trainer Stuart Kendrick said she had been climbing in her action when she first arrived in Mackay.
“Adrian and I have been able to educate her to change that and she then showed good improvement," he said.
“She won a jumpout here in Mackay before the Townsville win.
“So we were very confident that she’d run well first-up in Townsville.”
The Kendrick Racing shine did the trick, with Tambo’s Jewel ($7) winning easily on October 30 by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
