Tarzan back in full voice

TARZAN looked as strong as his namesake when he won first-up from a long break at Doomben on Australia Day.

The four-year-old Drumbeats gelding, having his first start in seven months, won a Class 3 (1050m).

Apprentice jockey Tiffani Brooker, who had also won the previous race for Kendrick Racing with Rare Occurrence, pushed forward to lead on Tarzan and he was never headed.

“He had to do a bit of work early, so I was really happy with him,’’ Kendrick said.

“Tiffani rode him well – kept him balanced around the turn when he just wanted to do a couple of things wrong and he kicked on well,’’ he said.

Tarzan, which started $3.30 favourite, showed he was ready to show his best with a strong win in good time in a recent Sunshine Coast barrier trial, with Brooker aboard.

“He’s had a few issues (during his career),” Kendrick said.

“(Part-owners) Kilto Park have done a great job,’’ he said.

“Neville Bell and John Mott and the crew down there have done a terrific job to get him back.

“It is very satisfying for everyone.”
