KENDRICK Racing and owner-breeder Dalan Tamblyn have unveiled a good one in Tambo's Mate.
The three-year-old Mossman colt won impressively on debut at the Sunshine Coast, despite having a torrid run from a wide gate.
Ridden by Matthew McGillivray, the December trial winner won a QTIS 3YO Maiden (1000m) on Sunday, February 3, as a $5.50 chance.
He wasn't the best away and looked to have spent plenty of energy trapped wide throughout, but drew away to win with ease by one-and-three-quarter lengths.
"Owner Dalan Tamblyn gave this promising three-year-old plenty of time to mature and might reap some very big rewards,'' Kendrick said.
"He drew the outside ally and didn't get closer than three to four deep but still won on debut going away from them with his ears pricked,'' he said.
"The horse, bred by Dalan, is by Buffering's sire Mossman and out of Canny Lad mare Passagemaker. She has also produced Passatorio and Canny and the Jet."
Tambo's Mate is now likely to be given a chance in three-year-old metro company.
