KENDRICK Racing is having a great run with two-year-old first-starters.

The latest is Darby Racing gelding Jagged Edge, which won a Sunshine Coast 2YO Maiden (1000m) impressively on debut on Sunday, April 14.

Ridden by James Orman, Jagged Edge ($4.60), a trial winner leading into the race, was dominant, sitting in second before putting the issue beyond doubt halfway down the straight, cruising to a two-and-a-quarter length win.

"He's a really nice horse,'' said trainer Stuart Kendrick.

"The Darby boys picked him out down in Sydney last year. We've been really patient with him,'' he said.

"He's a big, strong boy and he was impressive today, so we're very happy with him."

Kendrick said Orman had also ridden the horse in a trial earlier in the week and when he got off  he indicated he gave him great feel.

"We really wanted to follow something because he got a little bit  lost in front in the trial,'' he said.

"These Better Than Readys just keep doing it.

"We've bought a few at the sales ... They can all gallop, they're naturals and he showed that again today.

"He's a sensible bloke and does everything right, so hopefully he can go onto something nice over the carnival."
