A FRONTRUNNING effort by Bel Esprit filly Clever Miss has extended Kendrick Racing's recent great run with two-year-olds.
Rated perfectly in front on the heavy track by Luke Tarrant, Clever Miss ($2.05-fav) showed plenty of determination to hold off a challenge by Lyrical Girl by a half-length in a QTIS 2YO Maiden (1000m) on Sunday, May 4.
"She was coming off a good third at the Gold Coast on debut and we were confident heading into the race,'' said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
"We were fairly sure she'd handle the heavy track and the race panned out that way,'' he said.
"Luke had a good hold on her in front throughout, which meant she was able to kick strongly over the concluding stages."
Kendrick said the win was a nice earner for connections.
"She's a QTIS horse, so she pocketed more than $25,000 for the win,'' he said.
