THE mission wasn't an easy one - step up from a maiden win and take on the older horses while jumping from the outside gate.
But promising two-year-old Embattled proved he can handle nearly anything thrown at him when he took out a Class 1 (1000m) at the Sunshine Coast on Friday, May 10.
By the ill-fated Time For War, Embattled has all of the makings of a war horse.
Ridden by apprentice Jackson Murphy, Embattled ($3.90-fav) made it two wins in a row, showing his customary speed in another front-running display.
He held on late despite having to work from the bad draw.
"He did a good job to win from the outside alley," said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
"He was stepping up from a win in maiden two-year-old company to take on older horses in Class 1, and did it well,'' he said.
"We'll probably target another 1000m two-year-old race with him now."
